China’s First Port Vocational Skills Competition Successfully Held in Shenzhen

On November 16th 2014, the First National Vocational Skills Competition for the Transport Industry ended in Shenzhen. 187 contestants, representing 27 ports, joined the finals in YICT. Shenzhen Port and other port groups entered the top ten teams, and Mr. Chen Huochang and Mr. Hu Yanwu from Shenzhen Port group and some other contestants respectively won top ten places in the quay crane and forklift operation competitions. 
 
The competition was organized by the Ministry of Transport (MOT), Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and National Committee of the Chinese Seamen and Construction Workers’ Union in conjunction with MOT’s Vocational Accreditation Centre and the Transport Commission of Shenzhen Municipality. The event focused on the port sector for the first time, attracting approximately 3,000 contestants in the preliminary contest. The competition was for both quay crane and forklift operators. The stability and accuracy of quay crane operators’ control over the hoist were examined. The overall competence in terms of stability, accuracy, speed and deftness of forklift operators were test.
 
The competitions were judged both by man and electronic devices; in which infrared ray induction system and camera were used throughout the whole competition. Mr. Xv Zhenchao, Vice President of All - China Federation of Trade Unions, and Mr. Kong Xiangrui, National Model Worker and “May 1" labor medalist, served respectively as the chief judge and chief arbitrator, while experienced experts from different ports of China served as judges, which provided strong support to the smoothness of the competition.
