On the afternoon of April 17th, 2014, the fourth session of the seventh council meeting and the first session of the eighth council meeting was held in the Grand Mercury Hotel Shenzhen by Shenzhen Ports Association. The leadership of the eighth council meeting was elected, and Mr. Patrick Lam, Managing Director of Yantian International Container Terminal Co., Ltd. was elected to be the new President of the association.

The Report on the Seventh Council Meeting was briefed by Mr. David Deng, the President of the Seventh Council Meeting. The meeting noted that, in the past 3 years, the association had done productive work in reflecting industry demands, defending industry interests and providing services to members, etc. which fully played the role of the bridge. The meeting gave full credits to the association’s work of the last 3 years.

With democratic election, the organization of the eighth council meeting of the association was elected. Mr. Patrick Lam, Managing Director of Yantian International Container Terminal Co., Ltd. was elected to be the new President. Mr. Qiao Hongwei, General Manager of Shenzhen Yantian Port Group Co., Ltd., Mr. Edgar Zheng, Chairman of Chiwan Container Terminal Co., Ltd., Mr. Eric Yim, Managing Director of Shekou Container Terminal Co., Ltd., Mr. Pan Ke, from China Merchants Holdings (International) Company Limited, Mr. Benjamin Lai, CEO of Shenzhen Dachan Bay Modern Port Development Company Limited, and 6 other representatives were elected to be the Vice Presidents. Mr. Ma Zhuo, Chairman of Shenzhen Dachan Bay Port Investment and Development Co., Ltd. was elected to be the President of the Supervisory Board.

The meeting also appointed the Secretarial of the eighth Council and the responsible persons for specialized committees of the association, and brought in Mr. Sunny Ho, Executive Director of Hong Kong Shippers' Council, and Mr. Qu Jian, Vice President of China Development Institute, to be the consultants of the eighth Council.

After the election, Mr. David Deng, President of the seventh Council, made his farewell speech, then the new President, Mr. Patrick Lam, presented the Report on the Work Plans of the eighth Council. Mr. Lam said that, in the future, the association would continue to develop its functions of providing services, reflecting demands and standardizing behavior, to innovate and forge ahead, and try our best to build the association to be a better representative and more fully functional association with standardized behavior and considerate services. In the future, the association should coordinate closely with the government and administrative departments, take part in industry management and self-discipline strengthening, and contribute to the better and faster development of Shenzhen Port.

Over 70 representatives from the Transport Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, Shenzhen Maritime Safety Administration, Shenzhen General Station of Exit & Entry Frontier Inspection, Shenzhen Entry-Exit Inspection & Quarantine Bureau and other relevant departments, association member companies and supervisor companies attended the meeting.
